Day 1: Arrival Pick-Up and Transfer to Kigali City
On you first day of Rwanda safari, you will explore with us one of the safest and cleanest cities in Africa depending on your arrival. In the morning after breakfast, your trip will start with a warm welcome by our tour driver/guides, who will be ready to show you around, just according to your wishes. The driver/guide will lead you to a must-see places and real insider spots. After some delicious snacks, your driver/guide will transfer you to Gizosi to visit the Genocide Memorial, a grim reminder of a senseless massacre of innocents lives in 1994. Learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to the 1994 genocide and how Rwanda has dealt with that past. We shall proceed with our tour and see the new developments in Rwanda. After lunch at one of the best restaurants in town, you can explore vibrant market scenes, some boutiques of the up-coming Kigali fashion scene, or an Art Gallery. On this first day you will already familiarize yourself with the diversity of this thriving country. After the day depending on your flexibility for Kigali night tour, our driver/guide will lead you back to your hotel or lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Butare-Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfasting your driver/guide will pick you from the lodge/hotel in Kigali later depart for Butare the second largest city of Rwanda and is regarded as the intellectual city of Rwanda. The city hosts the National Museum, several academic universities and research institutions. On your way to Butare you will visit Nyanza currently Nyabisindu the former Mwami’s palace the King’s palace and the seat of the feudal monarchy. The palace has been reconstructed to its 19th century state and shows a traditional dome that can be compared with the Kabaka’s palace of Buganda. You will visit the National Museum which is one the well set-up if not the finest ethnographic museum of East Africa. It’s a good source of information on the cultural history of Rwanda and the region. Lunch break at Butare and later you will proceed and drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Your driver/guide will stop at the Uwinka offices to have the last update on the presence of the semi-habituated groups of chimpanzees and colobus monkeys. This will help you to prepare your activities of the next day. Your driver/guide will lead you to the lodge for check-in, refreshment and dinner overnight stay.
Day 3: Full Day Exploring Nyungwe Forest National Park
On your 3 days, after breakfast in the early morning you will either have a chimpanzee tracking experience in Nyungwe Forest or you may choose to have another guided primate walk tour or have one of the cycling or hikes in the well-maintained trails. There are a large host of primates and blue monkeys present and often observed around Uwinka, requiring less strenuous hiking. There is also an orchid garden at Uwinka and for those who would like a challenging hike we recommend the trail “the Bigugu Mountain, the highest peak in Nyungwe Forest at nearly 3000m. Bird watchers will certainly be interested to know that Nyungwe Forest has also some Albertine rift endemic species that can only be seen here! Birding experience is a very rewarding on one of the special designed trails. Later you will return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Exploring Nyungwe Forest National Park
In the early morning you will grab your breakfast, after you will get pick by your driver/guide and head back in Nyungwe Forest for a guided nature walk tour of a particular interest are the large social groups of Angolan Colobus and Colobus angolensis, which may be over 300 individuals. These are the largest troops of this species known in the world. Nyungwe forest counts 25% of the African Primates. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Transfer To Explorer Lake Kivu
You will rise up on an early breakfast and then after depart to lake Kivu on the north eastern part of Rwanda, arrive in time at the lodge check in and for lunch and later you will spend the rest of the day on the lake enjoying beach activities like swimming, beach volley ball, sun bathing, and also you can take a boat cruise on the lake and explore the nearby island you also view the Nyiragongo mountain an active volcanoes in Congo. After you shall return to your already booked lodge for refreshment, relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Full Day Explorer Kibuye–Gisenyi–Kinigi
After your breakfast step out of the lodge and you will have a range of optional activities to engage in and get your day going. Lake Kivu waters has waves that support water sports activities like windsurfing, kayaking, speed boat rides, boat cruises and sport fishing, swimming, hiking and biking can also be done along the shore of the lake. In the evening you will have a visit to the few attractions in the nearby towns of Kibuye and Gisenyi. After that you shall return to your already booked lodge for refreshment, relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park for Gorilla Trekking
Have breakfast and visit the beach after exploring head back to the lodge for refreshment. After lunch you will catch up with your driver/guide who will drive you to Ruhengeri Volcanoes National Park which is located in the northern part of Rwanda a gifted Rwanda protected park housing endangered mountain gorillas and the scenic drive from Kibuye passing through beautiful scenery and the rolling hills. Arrive at the park in the evening check-in at the park lodge for relaxation and dinner as you wait for tomorrow’s memorable moment of gorilla tracking, an overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 8: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Visit Iby’wacu Cultural Center
In the morning have early breakfast and head for the Kinigi Park offices by 7:00AM; just in time for the morning briefing on the code3 of conduct when tracking for the mountain gorillas. After locating the creatures, take clear observation of their behaviour while taking memorable photographs and videos for this wonderful encounter. Later retrieve to the starting point, where you will meet up your driver/guide for a drive back to your lodge for refreshment and lunch break. After Lunch, step out for a visit to the Iby’wacu Cultural Village where you will learn more about the Rwanda’scultural practices.
Later, Dine and rest for overnight.
Day 9: Golden Monkey Trekking – Transfer to Kigali City
Have breakfast and head for the Kinigi Park offices by 7:00AM; just in time for the morning briefing on the code of conduct when tracking for the shy and playful golden monkeys. After locating the jumpy creatures, take clear observation of their behaviors while taking photographs and videos for your best moments for this wonderful encounter. Later retrieve the starting point; meet up your guide for a drive back to Kigali city, dine and rest at your already booked hotel or lodge.
Day 10: Transfer to Akagera National Park
In the morning after your relaxed breakfast at your lodge or hotel in Kigali, where our driver/guide will pick you from and You will drive for 3 hours to Akagera National Park, via Kayonza to the Eastern part of Rwanda. You will arrive before lunch at the beautiful Akagera park, and you will proceed to check-in at the lodge in the park which has a swimming pool. Take a swim before lunch. After lunch you will start your exploration with a game drive by visiting the giraffe valley. The giraffes of Akagera National Park were translocated from Kenya in January 1986. The 2 males and 4 female Masai giraffes were got near Lake Magadi (Kenya) and given to the Rwandan government under an agreement to restock the latter’s wildlife habitats that were depleted by many years of poaching. The giraffes were first put in an enclosure on the Rurama peninsula. One night on Christmas 1987 they escaped because the barrier was broken down by elephants. (A ranger died of his wounds when he tried to prevent the elephants). The giraffes crossed the Kiyonza ridges and settled on the Nyamwashama plains, since then also named as the giraffe valley. The animals have grown tremendously since then, with first baby giraffe born in 1988 and the second a year later. After that you shall return to your already booked lodge for refreshment, relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 11: Explorer Akagera National Park Including Evening Safari Game Drive
In morning enjoy the lodge and their breakfast and its astonishing views over Lake Ihema. After your exploration will start with a safari boat cruise trip on Lake Ihema which is a very rewarding experience for seeing the large number of hippos, the huge Nile crocodiles and many birds. After the boat trip you will continue your exploration along the lakes Kivumba, Hago, Mihindi and Rwanyakizinga. They are the most interesting part of the park especially for birders. Later your driver/guide will return back at your lodge for your lunch break. After lunch. After lunch, you will spend the rest of your afternoon relaxing at your lodge and later in the evening you will meet up with your driver/guide and embark on an evening game drive in the park. Get to watch wildlife animals as they return to their dens for the night. Later drive back to your lodge for refreshment, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 12: Early Morning Game Drive and Hot Air Balloon
Rise up early this morning as well, grab your breakfast or take a packed one. And catch up with your driver/guide and go for a game drive to sight the early raisers with great anticipation of seeing the different animals like buffaloes, elephants, lions, giraffes and among other park wildlife animals which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill. After the game drive, return to connect with your driver/guide and drive back to your lodge for lunch. After lunch you will proceed to another activity which will be the hot air-balloon experience. This activity always starts in the morning and in the evening takes about 1- 2hours. Get to experience the serenity of flight together with amazing views of the park as you also watch the sun and views of the amazing landscapes over Lake Ihema and view a variety of wildlife from the sky. This tour ends with champagne after landing and you receiving your flight certificate. Later you will meet up with your driver/guide again who will driver back to lodge for relaxation, dine and stay for overnight.
Day 13: Departure to Kigali City
An early breakfast at the lodge will be followed with a transfer back to Kigali, if you missed the first Kigali city tour, go for a city tour and visit some of the interesting places around the including the genocide memorial site, national museum, hand craft shops among many other if your flight is in the late evening. Or you will be dropped off at your hotel/lodge or at any place of your inconvenience.
