Day 1: Pick-up and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
You will be picked upon your arrival at the airport or at the hotel in Kigali. After breakfast, our driver/guide will pick you up at your hotel/residence in Kigali. And meet your birding guide who will transfer you to Nyungwe Forest National Park for an exciting birdwatching safari tour. Arrive at your booked lodge, check in, either relax or go for a short natural walk around your booked accommodation. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 2: Full Day Birding Expedition Nyungwe Forest Reserve Of Rwanda
Wake up early in the morning for breakfast and head to Nyungwe Forest for birdwatching experience trip to look out for several birds such as Kivu Ground-Thrushm, Rwenzori Hill-babbler, White-tailed Blue-flycatcher, Mountain Greenbul, Red-chested, Sunbird, Regal Sunbird, Rockefeller’s Sunbird, Archer’s Robin-Chat, Miombo Rock-Thrush, Mountain Masked Apalis, Black-faced Apalis, Collared Apalis, Chestnut-throated Apalis, Grauer’s Warbler, few Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Stripe-breasted Tit, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Red- throated Alethe, Rwenzori Turaco, Thick-billed Seedeater, Handsome Francolin, Barred Long-tailed Cuckoo, White-headed Wood-hoopoe, Olive Woodpecker, Cinnamon Bracken Warbler, Mountain Yellow Warbler, Northern Puffback, White-starred Robin, Rwenzori Double-collared Sunbird, Dusky Crimsoning, Streaky Seedeater, Great Blue Turaco, Variable Sunbird, Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, Waller’s Starling, White-bellied Crested Flycatcher, Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird among others. Retire and return back to the lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 3: Half day Bird Watching in Nyungwe Forest and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, you will head back and resume your birding trip to Nyungwe Forest in search for birds that you might have missed in the past days. You may spot birds like Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Mountain Sooty Boubou, Rwenzori Batis, Black Cuckoo, Sharpe’s Starling, Golden-breasted Bunting, Equatorial Akalat, White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, Evergreen Forest Warbler, Dusky Tit, Doherty’s Bush-shrike, Siffling Cisticola, Bronze Mannikin, Neumann’s Warbler, Red-throated Alethe, Mountain Wagtail, Barred Long-tailed Cuckoo, Blue-headed Sunbird, Kungwe Apalis, White-bellied Robin-chat, and many more. There after your driver/guide will be available to drive you back to your lodge for lunch break, later check out and drive to Volcanoes National Park for Gorilla tracking experiences the following day. Later after a break at the lodge, you shall check out and head to Volcanoes National Park. On your arrival at the park in the evening, you will check in at your new booked lodge for this night. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking and Birding Experiences in Volcanoes National Park
Have an early morning breakfast and head to Kinigi park head offices by 7:00am for morning briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines and allocation of gorilla families. Head into the park in search for the giant mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This takes approximately 1hour to meet the gorillas however, the trekking time is subject to their movement. Upon meeting them, you will spend one hour to take photos and later retrieve to the starting point to pick your certificates. Drive back to your lodge for lunch and later head out for the look of several bird species in Volcanoes national park like; Baglafecht weaver, Grauer’s swamp warbler, Cinnamon-chested bee-eater, Bateleur, Blue-spotted wood dove, Red-backed shrike, Rwenzori double-collared sunbird, African long-eared owl, Brown woodland warbler, Brown-necked parrot, Doherty’s bush-shrike, Dusky turtle dove, Handsome francolin, Dusky crimsonwing, Archer’s robin-chat, Lagden’s bush-shrike, Red-faced woodland warbler, Strange weaver, Rwenzori apalis, Rwenzori batis, Rwenzori nightjar, Rwenzori turaco, Scarlet-tufted malachite sunbird among others. Retire from the forest, drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Transfer Back to Kigali and Birding at Mount Kigali
After breakfast, you will meet up with your driver/guide for a transfer to Mountain Kigali which is the largest hill in the vicinity of Kigali City and has a forest which is a worthy birding spot. You may encounter birds like the African Paradise Flycatcher, White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher, Southern Black Flycatcher, Red-chested Cuckoo, Green-backed Camaroptera, Thick-billed Seedeater, Tropical Boubou, Northern Puffback, Common Bulbul, Bronze Mannikin, Yellow-fronted Canary. You will have a lunch break after you will be transferred back to your hotel, lodge or you will be dropped off at any place of your inconvenience.
