A 7-days primate-focused vacation safari in Rwanda offers the chance to encounter some of the country’s most iconic primates, including mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, golden monkeys and more. These 7-Days of Rwanda’s Primates Prime Safari offer will come along with an opportunity to take part in top activities of wildlife tourism in Rwanda. While Volcanoes National Park is the most popular wildlife destination in Rwanda and one of the last habitats of Mountain Gorillas, Nyungwe National Park is often referred to as the primate’s capital of Rwanda. It has 13 primate species including Chimps, Golden Monkeys, Angola Colobus, Black and White Colobus. The park hosts one of the largest and oldest afro-montane forests in the world.

Day 1: Airport Pick-Up and Kigali City Tour
On you first day of this tour, you will explore with us one of the safest and cleanest cities in Africa. In the morning, your trip will start with a warm welcome by our tour driver/guides, who will be ready to show you around, just according to your wishes. The driver/guide will lead you to a must-see places and real insider spots. After some delicious snacks, your our driver/guide will transfer you to Gizosi to visit the Genocide Memorial, a grim reminder of a senseless massacre of innocents lives in 1994. Learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to the 1994 genocide and how Rwanda has dealt with that past. We shall proceed with our tour and see the new developments in Rwanda. After lunch at one of the best restaurants in town, you can explore vibrant market scenes, some boutiques of the up-coming Kigali fashion scene, or an Art Gallery. On this first day you will already familiarize yourself with the diversity of this thriving country. After the day depending on your flexibility for Kigali night tour, our driver/guide will lead you back to your hotel or lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
After breakfast it’s time to leave Kigali to start the journey to Nyungwe forest. The park is located in the southwestern part of Rwanda, and it takes about 5 hours to get there by road. While on the journey the driver will stop at several places along the way. You will stop at the palace of the former King of Rwanda and other key places. Lunch will be taken in a local restaurant along the way. Upon arrival at Nyungwe National Park you will have the chance to experience the amazing cultural dance troupe performs before heading out into the forest, which is one of the largest and the oldest afro montane forest on the African continent. Thereafter your driver/guide will transfer you at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
Wake Up early and have breakfast before your guide brings you to the Nyungwe forest offices for a briefing on chimpanzee tracking. The briefing covers topics about the history of the forest, wildlife to be found, what to expect, and how to prepare. The Chimps tracking takes between 2 to 6 hours, and you will be escorted by very experienced Guides/Rangers. Although you will be looking out for the Chimps, the Nyungwe forest is home to 12 other species of primates. Golden monkeys are almost impossible to spot here but expect to see the 11 other species. The park Guides will explain everything about the forest and the different species of wildlife. After tracking the Chimpanzees, you will be taken back to your lodge for lunch and rest. Late in the afternoon, you will enjoy the famous and spectacular Canopy Walk. The Canopy Walk in Nyungwe was one of the very first to be established in East Africa. It offers tourists an opportunity to get an aerial view of the park while working across the viewing platform. From the viewing platform, you can spot butterflies, birds, primates, and the different trees species. By the end of a memorable day, you will feel your legs being happy to have had amazing wildlife encounters in a lush green African forest. We hope that you ask all your questions during your time with the park officials. Once descended, you shall meet up with your driver/guide and you will proceed to the lodge for relaxed evening dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park–Twin Lakes Visit
Wake up at your own time, take breakfast, and checkout. The guide will pick you and start the journey to Volcanoes National Park. You will drive by the beautiful Lake Kivu and other beautiful features. Take as many photos of the lake as you can. Rwanda has beautiful countryside with rolling hills, green plantations, and welcoming locals. Lunch will be taken along the way. Once you reach Volcanoes Park near Musanze, you will check-in and have rest before going out to visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, where you can spend the time as you wish. You can take a boat and visit the islands, watch birds, go for a hike or a rest in the sun. Thereafter you shall return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking and Iby’iwacu Cultural Village Tour
This once-in-a-lifetime experience of encounter the gentle giants starts with a briefing for the Gorilla Tracking at the parks headquarter. You will learn about the necessary rules, what to expect and you get much information about all the creatures in the park. There are 10 habituated Gorilla families in Rwanda. You will have assigned one based on your overall fitness and age among other factors. The time taken for tracking the mountain gorillas is unpredictable, but we estimate between 2 to 6 hours at most. The activity can be very challenging but the opportunity to observe a group of gorillas in the wild is very special indeed. The safety and security of visitors while tracking mountain gorillas is always guaranteed and you are guided by a professional park ranger. Spending one hour with these giants, you can take as many photos as possible of the group. Then you’ll hike back through the pristine nature of the mountainous rainforest, that also harbors buffaloes, monkeys, birds, and elephants. Bringing a lifetime memory back to the starting point, you will find our company guide waiting for you. Take lunch at the hotel and have some rest. Later in the evening, you will go to the Iby’iwacu cultural village which is very close to the park. It started as a place where former poachers would sell their artisan products to tourists but has now turned into a center of excellence in cultural performances. Enjoy watching traditional dance performances and visit each part of the facility to learn about the culture of the different tribes in Rwanda. Thereafter you shall return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Golden Monkey Trekking
Wake up early grab your reakfast, and proceed to the park offices in Kinigi. After the briefing, the park ranger/guide will take you to the search/tracking of the Golden Monkeys in the bamboo forests. Unlike Gorilla tracking both tracking in Rwanda takes a shorter time. You can expect to complete the activity in 2-5 hours at most. The super-cute and playful Golden monkeys are an endangered primate species that are only found in Rwanda, Uganda, and Congo. After spending time with the primates, you will head back to the starting point and find your driver/guide who takes you back to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer Back to Kigali City or To the Airport
After your breakfast, you will check out the lodge, and heading to the shores of Lake Kivu, the largest freshwater body in Rwanda. We drive along the Lake Kivu shores with beautiful views while having lunch break in Kibuye, before returning to Kigali. In Kibuye, a boat tour and island hopping can be booked optionally. Later on, you shall proceed and return back to Kigali City or get dropped off at your residence.
