Day 1: Airport Pick-Up and Transfer to Kigali City Tour
On you first day of this tour, you will explore with us one of the safest and cleanest cities in Africa. In the morning, your trip will start with a warm welcome by our tour driver/guides, who will be ready to show you around, just according to your wishes. The driver/guide will lead you to a must-see places and real insider spots. After some delicious snacks, your driver/guide will transfer you to Gizosi to visit the Genocide Memorial, a grim reminder of a senseless massacre of innocents lives in 1994. Learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to the 1994 genocide and how Rwanda has dealt with that past. We shall proceed with our tour and see the new developments in Rwanda. After lunch at one of the best restaurants in town, you can explore vibrant market scenes, some boutiques of the up-coming Kigali fashion scene, or an Art Gallery. On this first day you will already familiarize yourself with the diversity of this thriving country. After the day depending on your flexibility for Kigali night tour, our driver/guide will lead you back to your hotel or lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Birding Experience at Mount Kigali And Transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, you will meet up with your driver/guide for a transfer to Mountain Kigali which is the largest hill in the vicinity of Kigali City and has a forest which is a worthy birding spot. You may ecounter birds like the African Paradise Flycatcher, White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher, Southern Black Flycatcher, Red-chested Cuckoo, Green-backed Camaroptera, Thick-billed Seedeater, Tropical Boubou, Northern Puffback, Common Bulbul, Bronze Mannikin, Yellow-fronted Canary. You will drive back to your hotel/lodge and have a lunch break, after you will proceed and be transferred to Akagera National Park which is composed of wetland, woodland, and savannah with the lowest point of Rwanda. Upon arrival, have lunch and after Indulge in an evening game drive to search for animals like Giraffe, Buffalo, Elephant and a lot of bird species like the shoebill stork which can be seen easily on the shorelines on River Akagera. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge in the park.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Safari Boat Cruise
After breakfast, you will set out for the morning game drive to search for early risers and these are likely Giraffe, Buffalo, Elephant and a lot of bird species like the shoebill stork which can be seen easily on the shorelines on River Akagera. Return to the lodge for a lunch break and in the afternoon, you will go for the safari boat cruise ride on the river Akagera and explorer the nearby lakes which will expose you to water-loving birds and animal species that come along the shorelines to take water. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast your driver/guide will transfer you to Nyungwe Forest National Park. En-route visit the Butare town which is the country’s 2nd capital after Kigali. Here you shall have an optional visit to the National Museum, the Botanical gardens and proceed and again you will have another stopover in Nyanza for a visit to the Old King Mwami’s palace then head straight to Nyungwe Forest National Park which is on a high elevation and simply placed on 970 square kilometers of land and it is very apparent that it creates its own climate from its own biodiversity. Upon arrival in Nyungwe, participate in the evening forest walk. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park
Have an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters in Nyungwe forest for briefing before going for chimpanzee tracking. It is advisable to carry packed lunch and plenty of water prior to this tracking since it can sometimes last over 6 hours. In the forest, you will not only see chimpanzees to but also variety of animals and birds like the Rwenzori Turaco, Black and white casqued horn bill, colobus monkeys and among others. Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe takes you in-to the thick forest, walking in tiny paths, dodging thorny trees and holding onto tree branches for support. On meeting the beautiful chimps, spend one hour watching or following them as they carry on their normal lives. You will take as many pictures as you want provided the camera has no flash. Return late in the afternoon have lunch and go for an optional canopy walk that will give you a chance to have an aerial view of the park and watch some more birds species. Dinner, relaxation and overnight stay stay at the lodge.
Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Ruhengeri town and then to Volcanoes National Park. En-route stopover at Gisenyi town for a scenic view of Lake Kivu and for Lunch, Reach the park in the evening in time. The park is well known for its endangered mountain gorillas and Gorilla tracking is the major tourism activity. Arrive in the late afternoon and transfer to your lodge for dinner and overnight. The journey offers amazing views of the Virunga ranges, a chain of eight volcanoes that is shared by three countries of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Dinner, relaxation and overnight stay stay at your booked lodge.
Day 7: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Center Visit
Have your early morning breakfast, carry your packed lunch, and go for briefing at the park headquarters after which you will set off for the mountain gorilla tracking. The park ranger/guides will lead you deep into the forest in search for the mountain Gorillas moving across the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures that you will immensely enjoy viewing and photographing for about 1 hour. The activity in Rwanda can take 3-5 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and the gorilla group you are tracking. This is a once in a lifetime adventure and coming up-close with the mountain gorillas is an awesome and exciting moment. In the afternoon after lunch break, you will visit the Iby’Iwacu cultural centre. This is a one stop center for all the ethnic groups in Rwanda. The Twa, Hutu and Tutsi are all exhibited, you will enjoy different cultural performances, taste local cuisines and buy local souvenirs as you wish. Returning to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay will be in the late evening at the lodge.
Day 8: Dian Fossey Grave Trail and Golden Monkey Trekking
You will have breakfast in the early morning and get transferred to the Park Headquarters by your driver/guide for registration and briefing about the Golden Monkey tracking and as well as Dianne Fossey grave trekking. And later you will set off to start the activity. Golden Monkeys are rare species of primates in Africa and only a few can be seen in the Virunga forests of Volcanoes National Park and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda. Dian Fossey was an American Zoologist who was murdered in 1985 while on her research about the rare species of Mountain Gorillas and other primates in Volcanoes National Park. Her graves are close to her research center. She is considered an ancestor for gorilla tourism in Africa. After the track, you will return to the lodge and enjoy the evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 9: Transfer Back to Kigali City/Airport
After breakfast, you will go for a short tour around Ruhengeri. Then, you will transfer back to Kigali reaching in time for Lunch. You will be dropped off at any place of your inconvenience or at the airport for your flight back home.
