A 9-days cultural and primate safari adventure in Rwanda offers a fantastic opportunity to explore the rich cultural heritage and encounter the country’s iconic primates. These 9 Days of exploring Rwanda Culture and Primate Safari will take you through Kigali city tour and connect to Nyanza to visit Omwami palace and Rugarama hot springs. You will proceed to drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park for an amazing chimpanzee trekking tour and experience fantastic boat cruise ride on lake kivu to encounter aquatic wildlife such as hippos and crocodile and Akagera National Park. The tour will also bring an opportunity to visit the Batwa people for cultural and community interactions.

Day 1: Airport Pick Up and Kigali City Tour
On your first day of this tour, you will explore with us one of the safest and cleanest city in Africa. In the morning, your trip will start with a warm welcome by our tour driver/guides, who will be ready to show you around, just according to your wishes. The driver/guide will lead you to a must-see places and real insider spots. After some delicious snacks, your driver/guide will transfer you to Gizosi to visit the Genocide Memorial, a grim reminder of a senseless massacre of innocents lives in 1994. Learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to the 1994 genocide and how Rwanda has dealt with that past. We shall proceed with our tour and see the new developments in Rwanda. After lunch at one of the best restaurants in town, you can explore vibrant market scenes, some boutiques of the up-coming Kigali fashion scene, or an Art Gallery. On this first day you will already familiarize yourself with the diversity of this thriving country. After the day depending on your flexibility for Kigali night tour, our driver/guide will lead you back to your hotel or lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
You will wake up and take your breakfast and meet up with your driver/guide for a quick briefing and proceed to Nyungwe Forest National Park. This park is a home to a number of chimpanzees and other unique primate species such as Golden Monkeys, vervet monkeys among others. You will have a stopover in Nyanza to visit the king’s palace before checking in to your booked lodge for relaxation, diner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Butare Cultural Museum Tour
Wake up early in the morning and grab your breakfast, and drive to Butare Cultural Museum for an excursion. This museum was built to commemorate the 1994 genocide that took place in Rwanda where many people lost their lives and property. Day 4: Primate Trekking and Lake Kivu Adventure Tour
Wake up early in the morning, have breakfast and your driver will be ready to transfer you to Nyungwe Forest National Park headquarters for a short briefing about your primate tracking tour. Later you will start your adventure trail into the forest in search of Chimpanzees in their natural settlement. During your track, you will sight and meet other forest primates such as Golden Monkeys, Colobus Monkeys, Silver Monkeys, Vervet Monkeys among others. Once you encounter chimpanzees, watch them play and swing in the forest canopies. Retrieve to the starting point to meet up with your driver/guide and them drive back to the lodge for lunch break. Check out and head to lake Kivu for a boat cruise ride. Dinner and overnight stay at the booked lodge.
Day 5: Visit Ross Carr’s Orphanage and Transfer to Ruhengeri Community
After a morning breakfast, your driver/guide will drive and lead you to Ross Car’s Orphanage which takes care of a good number of orphans, interact with the founders as well as the Orphans. Later you will return back meet your driver/guide who will transfer you back to the lodge for lunch break, later in the afternoon your driver/guide will lead you to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri, a home to endangered Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda. Proceed to check in to your booked lodge and have lunch and relaxation. Later in the evening you will join and take a community tour to explore the unique culture of the surrounding communities with a visit to local Dian Fossey projects. Thereafter you shall head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Mountain Gorilla Tracking Adventure and Iby’wacu Cultural Village Tour
This day is a highlight of your Rwanda Culture and Primate Safari. Have an early morning breakfast and head to Kinigi park head offices by 7:00am for morning briefing on Gorilla Tracking guidelines and allocation of gorilla families. Head into the park in search for the giant mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This takes approximately 1hour to meet the gorillas however, the trekking time is subject to their movement. Upon meeting them, you will spend one hour to take photos and later retrieve to the starting point to pick your certificates. Drive back to your lodge for lunch and later head out for the Iby’wacu Cultural tour for a clearer understanding of the Rwandese Culture. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 7: Visit Karisoke Gorilla Research Center and Transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, you will meet up with your drive/guide to drive at Karisoke Research Centre for a visit and to explore more history about gorillas This research center was initiated by Dian Fossey who was a famous primatologist and cared for the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park of Rwanda. Later you will drive and proceed back to your lodge for lunch break, check out and head back on your journey to Akagera National Park. On your arrival at the lodge in the park you will check in and later go for canoeing experience at Lake Ihema to encounter aquatic wildlife such as hippopotami and crocodiles among others. Day 8: Morning Game Drive and Launch Cruise
Have an early morning breakfast and meet your driver/guide to take you at the park in search for number of animals such as, lions, Impalas, buffaloes, elephants, zebras among others. Return to your lodge for lunch, relaxation and later go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema to see animals such as hippopotami and crocodiles. Thereafter you shall head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 9: Transfer back To Kigali City
On the last day of your 9 days of Rwanda tour, you will wake up to a relaxed morning breakfast and there check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver/guide for a transfer back to Kigali city with an En-route lunch and on your arrival in Kigali you will be dropped off at any place of your inconvenience.
